The University of Charleston men's basketball team went on the road and never trailed as they dominated Glenville State, 81-62, at the Waco Center in Glenville, WV. With the win, the Golden Eagles improved to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in MEC play.
UC opened the game by scoring the first four points. After Glenville State knotted the score up at 6-6, the Golden Eagles used a 9-3 run to take a 15-9 lead. The Pioneers would battle back to cut the lead to three before UC used a 13-6 run to go up 30-20 with 8:44 to play in the half. The two teams would battle back and forth the rest of the way as UC settled for a 41-33 halftime lead.
The Golden Eagles would use a 17-4 run out of halftime to stretch the lead to 21 points at 58-37 with 13:44. UC would stretch their lead to as many as 27 when they led 70-43 with 9:37 to play. The Golden Eagles would cruise from there as they never trailed in the contest for the second consecutive game.
UC would convert 53.2% of their field goal attempts while holding Glenville State to just 40.7% shooting. UC would also outrebound the Pioneers, 39-21.
Individually, Shunta Wilson led the Golden Eagles with 20 points on an efficient eight of nine shooting performance from the field. Lamont McManus and Eddie Colbert both added 11 points each. The Golden Eagles also had three players with a team high seven rebounds – Keith Williams, Isaiah Gable, and Lamont McMaus. In all, nine different players scored for the UC.
The Golden Eagles are now 4-1 on the season and they move to 1-0 in MEC play. UC will return to action on Saturday, November 27, 2021 as they will play host to Slippery Rock University. Game time is set for 4:00pm.
