CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The University of Charleston Women's Volleyball team competed in a doubleheader matchup with the Mountain Lions from Concord University on Thursday evening. The Golden Eagles took the match from the Mountain Lions 3-1 as Charleston was able to celebrate senior night in a positive manner for lone senior,
Jessica Sunnenberg.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Golden Eagles got off to a good start in set one to begin the match, with the home team leading 15-11. With the Golden Eagles to secure four of five points in the middle of the set, the Mountain Lions were forced to call a timeout with Charleston ahead 17-13. Hitting an astonishing .409 nearing the end of the first, Charleston finished the set off with 25-18 win behind five kills from Sunnenberg and seven assists from
Makenzy Johnson.
The second set saw the Mountain Lions gain traction, winning four of the first five points. The Concord offense was shown to run through Amber Hall and Sheridan Herron, as the two combined for 15 of the teams' 21 kills through the first set and a half. With the Mountain Lions leading 12-5, Charleston was able to tally on four straight to cut their deficit to just three points. The success that the Mountain Lions were able to achieve on the block showed to be too much for the Golden Eagles to handle, forcing a UC timeout with their lead sitting at 18-12.
Out of the timeout, Concord was able to finish the set off with a 25-19 victory to tie the match at 1-1. In the set, Charleston's hitting percentage dropped to .093 while the Mountain Lions hit nearly the same as the first set. Hall increased her kill total to 12 while Charleston had seven attacking errors in the set.
The third set saw Charleston play with a sense of urgency to regain momentum, but scrappy play from the Mountain Lions saw the kept the Golden Eagle lead at just 10-8. Four of the next five points belonged to Charleston which forced a Concord timeout while trailing 14-9 behind nine kills from the home team. With their lead sitting at 18-15, help from Catherine Morris and an .800 hitting percentage allowed for Charleston to score seven straight points and take the set 25-15.
The fourth set would be the final set, as it belonged to Charleston who went on to win it 25-16. The Golden Eagles hit .429 in the fourth set as Sunnenberg (11),
Rachel Phalen (12), and
Jaxin Melby (10) led the way in kills.
