CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The University of Charleston baseball won the weekend series over regional opponent Ashland University on Sunday afternoon, winning the finale 7-4. After falling behind 3-1 early, Charleston went on to score six unanswered runs in route to their series-clinching win at the Welch Athletic Complex.

How it Happened
- Colt Webb started the game for the Golden Eagles and allowed two early runs, as Mike Flemming singled home Austin Eifred. With two outs and runners on the corners, Tim Zeller got himself in a rundown between first and second which allowed for Carson Mittermaier to score on the play.
- In the bottom half of the frame, Tyler Dellerman recorded his first of four RBIs on the day when he singled to left field, which brought home Drew Hefner to cut the Ashland lead to 2-1.
- In the third, Ashland performed and executed their second double-steal of the game which brought home Flemming and gave the Eagles a 3-1 lead.
- Keeping the game close, Dellerman was able to single home a pair of runs on an opposite-field single to tie the game at 3-3.
- To begin the 4th inning, Charleston went to Jackson Mandella who went on to log 5.0 innings, allowing just three hits.
- A sacrifice fly from Dellerman in the 6th allowed the Golden Eagles to grab their first lead of the game and in the 8th, the Golden Eagles gained some cushioning when James Heavilin singled home a pair, followed by a passed ball which brought home some additional support to give Charleston a 7-3 lead.
- In the 9th, Caleb Rush came in and closed the door, allowing just one hit.
Stats
- Charleston finished with nine hits and no errors while the Eagles pushed for eight hits while also committing no errors.
- The Golden Eagles were able to take care of business on the defensive side of the ball, as the Charleston pitching staff did not record a strikeout in the game.
- Mandella picked up the first win of his collegiate career.
