Golden Eagles Split with Yellow Jackets on the Road

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The University of Charleston softball team split their double-header with Cedarville University on Tuesday afternoon. In game one the Golden Eagles scored their lone run to down the hosts 1-0 on the back of a Golden Eagle record 18 strikeouts from redshirt freshman pitcher, Dani Bauer. Charleston then fell in a close 4-3 matchup in game two.

SCORE: Game 1: Charleston 1, Cedarville 0 ; Game 2: Cedarville 4, Charleston 3

TEAM RECORDS: Golden Eagles (7-3, 0-0 MEC), Cedarville (9-5, 0-0 GMAC)  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
Game one:  
After seven scoreless innings for both teams, Allysa Lake doubled in the top of the eighth sending Janey Schmidt across the plate for the 1-0 win for the Golden Eagles.  

Redshirt freshman pitcher Danielle Bauer pitched a complete game for the Golden Eagles, picking up her third win of the season. In eight innings Bauer tallied a Charleston record 18 strikeouts, retiring 26 of 29 batters faced. 

Game two:  
The Golden Eagles got the ball rolling for Charleston in the top of the third inning on a single from Karli Pinkerton. In the bottom of the third Cedarville sent two runners across home plate to take the lead.  

Three innings later, Megan Eder doubled to right center allowing Pinkerton to score for Charleston tying the game up at two runs each.  

The score remained tied 2-2 sending the game into extra innings again. In the top of the eighth Gracie donator hit a SAC fly, allowing Pinkerton to score her third run of the outing. Down a run in the bottom of the eighth a triple from the Yellow Jackets allowed two runners to score giving CU the 4-3 victory.  

 
UP NEXT: 
The Golden Eagles will host the Concord University Mountain Lions on Saturday March 20. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
