CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The University of Charleston Men's Tennis team extended their win streak to four as they swept past the Falcons of Fairmont State University on Monday afternoon 7-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
UC had a strong start to the day by taking all three doubles matches and clinching the doubles point. Krish Patel and Jake Magill put in a dominant performance, not dropping a single game as they stormed to a 6-0 victory at #3 doubles. The big serving Lennert Stevens teamed up with Frantisek Pirek to take #2 doubles by a score of 6-4. John Giesberts and Drew Dagostine finished up with a well fought 7-6 victory at the #1 spot.
With the Golden Eagles taking a 1-0 lead into singles play, Charleston stormed ahead led by their number 1 player, Giesberts, who barely put a foot wrong as he won 6-1, 6-0 and was first off of the court for UC. The next point came from Alex Martinez in the number 6 position, with a clinical 6-4, 6-1 win. The match clinching point came from Frantisek Pirek at the #3 spot, as he fought hard for a 6-4, 6-3 victory, securing the match for UC.
Patel brought in the 5
th point for Charleston as he bounced back after dropping the first set, to win 5-7, 6-4, 10-4. Dagostine shortly followed to bring home the 6
th point, as he battled to a straight set 6-4, 7-6 win. Jake Magill completed the 7-0 sweep for the Golden Eagles, winning his match 6-7, 7-5, 10-5 in a long and physical matchup in the #4 singles spot.
