Lacrosse Falls to Notre Dame in Triple Overtime Thriller

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The University of Charleston Lacrosse team (4-8, 3-6 MEC) finished on the wrong side of the scoreboard this afternoon, falling to the Falcons from Notre Dame College 14-13 in triple overtime at the Welch Athletic Complex. The Golden Eagles fought through the first two overtime periods before Bridie Schmalz put the game away for the Falcons with 26 seconds remaining in 3 OT on an assist from Megan Jackson.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
The Golden Eagles came out and notched the first pair of goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead ten minutes into the game. After McKenna Kincaid scored the opener, Gianni Blundell scored the second to put Charleston ahead. Just moments later, the Falcons got on the board and eventually tied the game at 3-3 after Emily Thompson scored for Notre Dame down a player on offense.
 
At the halfway mark in the first, Charleston would go on to take a 4-3 lead as Kincaid scored her second of the game, but NDC answered with a pair to take a 5-4 lead. The Golden Eagles would go on to score four of the last five goals in the half to carry an 8-6 lead into the break.
 
In the second half, the Falcons tied the game at eight after scoring a pair to open the frame. Charleston would go on to score two of their own, including Tess Yuhas with the Golden Eagles down a player to take a 10-8 lead. Over the final 20 minutes of regulation, the Falcons would score five of the final eight goals which tied the game and sent the contest into overtime.
 
After a scoreless overtime period, the Golden Eagles would battle it out with the Falcons in 2 OT before Gianni Blundell was tabbed with a yellow card with 26 seconds remaining. The Golden Eagles would fight off the card which carried into the 3rd overtime, but Bridie Schmalz found the back of the net to put the game away with just 27 seconds remaining in the contest.
 
Georgia Ryan finished the game with 12 saves in goal while Falcon keeper Mackenzie Levine finished with 15.

Charleston will finish the regular season against West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. First draw is set for 1:00 PM in Buckhannon.
