CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The University of Charleston baseball team picked up another set of wins on Saturday, defeating the Pioneers from Glenville State in the opening day of their weekend series. Braxton Boddorf led Charleston offensively, recording three hits while driving in five runs and scoring three times.

How it Happened
  • The Pioneers got on the board in the first after tacking a pair of runs on Charleston starting pitcher Logan Campbell after Tre'Von Smith tripled home a pair to give Glenville State an early 2-0 lead.
  • From there, it was all Charleston on the offensive side, scoring 17 unanswered runs over the next four innings.
  • Drew Hefner got the party started after hitting a solo shot in the first inning which cut the deficit to just one
  • In the second, the Golden Eagles scored five runs on four hits while sending nine players to the dish to take a 6-2 lead. Colby Johnson came up with the biggest knock of the inning after doubling to right field to bring home a trio.
  • In the third, Charleston went back to work and pushed eight runs across on just three hits. The Pioneers ran into trouble by walking five in the inning and using three different pitchers. Notably in the frame, Bryce Toussaint knocked in a pair of runs on a double to right centerfield before Boddorf hit a grand slam to wrap up the scoring and give Charleston a 14-2 lead.
  • The Golden Eagles tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth after William Glazebrook drove in a pair on a double and Tyler Dellerman brought home Glazebrook on a single.
  • Campbell would be relieved by Freddie Reams to begin the 5th inning. He finished the game logging 4.0 IP, allowing two runs on two hits while walking two and striking out five.
  • Reams would go on to pitch a scoreless fifth inning, working around a walk and recording a pair of strikeouts.
  • In the 6th, the Pioneers plated a pair against Austin Dzierwa, who finished the day after 0.2 IP allowing two runs on three walks. He struck out two batters.
  • Owen MacNeil finished the job for the Golden Eagles on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while walking one and striking out three.

How it Happened
  • Charleston starting pitcher Colt Webb pitched his third complete game in his last five appearances, allowing just two runs on three hits over 7.0 IP. Webb worked around four walks and struck out eight.
  • Charleston opened the scoring in the second inning after Jesse Elliott doubled to right centerfield which brought around Hayden Cartt to give Charleston an early 1-0 lead.
  • In the third, the Pioneers tied the game up after Ryker Rivera homered against Webb to tie the game.
  • In the fourth, it was Elliott again who singled home Cartt to put the Golden Eagles on top 2-1. A much-needed insurance run was provided at the hands of Boddorf in the 5th inning, as the redshirt sophomore connected on a double to right field which scored Dellerman to put Charleston on top 3-1.
  • Webb would surrender one more run on an RBI single in the seventh, but worked out of a jam to give the Golden Eagles their second win on the day.
