Charleston Splits with Yellow Jackets on the Road

INSTITUTE, W. Va.– The University of Charleston Golden Eagles split their series with the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets on Wednesday afternoon. Charleston took the first game 9-4, but fell in game two 9-0 to the hosts. Charleston moves to 15-5 on the season.  
 
JUST THE BASICS 
SCORE: Game 1 – UC 9, WVSU 4; Game 2- WVSU 9, UC 0  
LOCATION: Insitute, W. Va.  
TEAM RECORDS: Golden Eagles (15-5, 8-2 MEC), WVSU (15-7, 12-2 MEC) 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
Game one:  

A huge seventh inning for the Golden Eagles boosted them over the Yellow Jackets scoring five runs to take the four-run lead.  

Charleston jumped to the 1-0 lead in the top of the third as AJ Martin scored on a single from Gracie Donato. In the top of the fourth, Charleston tacked on a pair of runs on singles from Pinkerton and Eder to take the 3-0 lead.  

The Yellow Jackets tallied three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game up 3-all, but the Golden Eagles crossed home plate once in the fifth to take the one-run lead.  

It was the seventh inning that gave the Golden Eagles the edge starting with a two-run homer from Allyssa Lake to kick off the scoring for Charleston. A single from AJ Martin, and a double from Megan Eder boosted the Golden Eagles 9-4 over opposing West Virginia State.  

Game two:  
The Yellow Jackets came out hot scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to take the early 3-0 lead.  

Morgan Hoppe and the Golden Eagles defense held the hosts scoreless in the second inning but gave up five runs in the bottom of the third to face the 8-0 deficit.  

The Yellow Jackets sealed their win in the bottom of the fourth innin with one more run across the plate, as the Golden Eagles were able to find the scoreboard in the top of the fifth.  

  

UP NEXT 
The Golden Eagles will host the Davis & Elkins Senators on Saturday. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
