BUCKHANNON, W. Va. -- The University of Charleston Golden Eagles Men's Tennis team picked up a solid victory on Friday afternoon, defeating the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan 4-3. The "Man of the Match" was Frantisek Pirek, who was the lone Golden Eagle to notch a pair of wins on the day.

The Golden Eagles fell in doubles play which gave the Bobcats an early 1-0 advantage in the match. At the #1 doubles spot, the Charleston pairing of John Giesberts and Marshall Dagostine fell to Charalampos Simaiofordis/Taylor Papworth 6-4. In their only doubles victory, the #2 pairing of Frantisek Pirek and Lennert Stevens defeated Camillo Salvi/James Anthony McIntosh in convincing fashion (6-1). Krish Patel/Jake Magill fell at the #3 doubles match to Nadal Nicolau/Carlo Dodero 6-3.
Headed into singles play, the Golden Eagles rebounded quickly as Pirek made quick work of Salvi at third singles by a score of 6-1, 6-4. Alex Martinez cruised past McIntosh in a 6-2, 6–1 victory at number six singles while Giesberts won a hard fought first singles match 7-5, 6-3 over Dodero.
Patel had the clincher match at number five singles with a score of 6-1,7-5. With the match out of reach by a score of 4-1, the Bobcats picked up wins at 2nd and 4th singlesÂ
Captain John Giesberts was very happy about the outcome of the match, stating that the team produced a, "
very good win today." When discussing how the team overcame a loud Wesleyan crowd, Giesberts stated that, "
although the crowd was rowdy, our young players seemed to handle the adversity with great tenacity and produce great wins"
Assistant Coach Sam Clarke was excited about the fight the men showed, stating that it's "
good to bounce back after losing the doubles point. Proud of the effort up and down the line up, we showed great fight out there."
