BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins has been slotted as the preseason favorite to win the MEC title in men's golf, while Charleston is the pick to win the conference championship on the women's side.

On the men's side, D&E finished first in the poll with 79 points and seven first-place votes. The Senators are fresh off a historic season that included a conference title and a berth in the NCAA Quarterfinals. West Liberty was picked second with 69 points and a pair of first-place votes. Charleston was third with 65 points and had one first-place vote, and was followed by Concord (54), Fairmont State (53), West Virginia Wesleyan (38), and Wheeling (31). Notre Dame was eighth (29), and Glenville State (23) and West Virginia State (9) rounded out the poll. 

On the women's side, Charleston was the overwhelming favorite with 64 points and eight first-place votes. The Golden Eagles have won four of the last five conference titles. West Virginia Wesleyan was second with 52 points and had one first-place vote. Wheeling was third with 46 points, and Davis & Elkins was next with 40. Fairmont State finished fifth in the poll (33) and was followed by Notre Dame (31), Glenville State (26), Concord (23) and West Liberty (9).

The MEC Championship will be held Oct. 4-6 at Avalon Lakes in Warren, Ohio.
