Charleston, W.Va—The Golden Eagle Men's Basketball team attempted to extend their five-game win streak on Saturday night as rival West Virginia State came to town. The visiting Yellow Jackets entered with a seven-game win streak of their own and looked to dethrone the top dog in the Mountain East Conference.

How it Happened
Lamont McManus opened up the contest with a nice post move to get by a State defender and give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead. A few minutes later Jeremiah Keene would score back-to-back baskets and give the Golden Eagles a 9-5 lead. From there however, it would be all Yellow Jackets from there. UC was never able to mount a comeback State would go up by as many as 18 points in the first half and would end the half down by 17 (44-29).
The difference in the first half was undoubtedly the shooting percentage of the Yellow Jacket offense. They would shoot a whopping 73% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc. Charleston on the other hand couldn't seem to get any shots to drop throughout the entire game. They made just 38% of their shots from the floor in the first half and 45% for the game. Any time it seemed they would make a comeback the Yellow Jackets would find the momentum killing bucket they needed.
The second half would be much of the same as the Golden Eagle offense could not seem to gain any sort of rhythm. The defense would make a big stop, but UC was almost never able to capitalize on the other end of the floor. The Yellow Jackets had also capitalized on UC turnovers much better than the Golden Eagles did. State earned 26 points off turnovers to UC's nine. The big difference maker in the game was Glen Abram who scored 30 points and was 62% from the field during the game. Eventually the Yellow Jackets would outlast the Golden Eagles and win by a final score of 86-75.
UC's leading scorer was Keith Williams with 23 with Jeremiah Keene adding an additional 21 points.
