CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston's tennis teams had a successful sweep against the Salem Tigers on Sunday, October 9
th.
The Basics
After defeating Walsh University, the men's tennis team notched another win as they returned to the court on Sunday with a convincing 7-0 win over the visiting Salem Tigers.
The Golden Eagles swept doubles behind the strength of the veteran doubles team of
Lennert Stevens and
Jowan Rawson, who took first doubles 6-1.
In singles, Charleston continued to dominate against the Tigers with Perez at number one singles,
Rawson at number two singles, and
Alberto Nordio at number four singles. Each player won in straight sets to put the match score at 4-0.
Farhaan Patrawala,
Alex Martinez and
Adrian Heidelberger completed the sweep for Charleston with a 7-0 match score.
Man of the match goes to
Rawson who lost just 4 games on the day.
Assistant Coach John Giesberts said, "It was a beautiful day for tennis and our team played beautifully to match the day."
As for the women's side, the opening weekend of dual matches saw the team notch two more wins. Coach Alec Foote utilized 10 different players in the win over the visiting Salem Tigers.
In doubles, the ladies swept all three doubles matches and only lost four games.
In singles, Charleston quickly won the first, second, and third singles losing only five games in the three matches. With the match clinched, Charleston took the remaining matches at four, five, and six singles.
Player of the match goes to
Sofiia Krasikova who lost only a single game on the day.
On another successful day, Head Coach Alec Foote said, "I was pleased with the team win today. We utilized our depth and the ladies that came in today put in a great performance."
