CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston defeated West Virginia Wesleyan in straight-sets during an evening matchup in the Wehrle Innovation Center. UC moves to a 22-3 overall record, while the Bobcats fall to a 6-18 overall record.

How It Happened
As the Golden Eagles faced the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan, UC took the court in sole possession of first place in the MEC South Division for the first time this season. After tonight's win, UC remains undefeated at home and moves to 9-1 in MEC conference play.
The Golden Eagles came out firing, taking 13 of the first 20 points in the first set. Later in the set, a kill from Pia Selke gave Charleston a 20-9 lead. UC won the set 25-11 on a block by McKenzie Carpenter and McKenzie Damon.
In a tighter second set, UC jumped to a 10-6 lead in the set on a kill by Sage Bearnson. The set would get close late in the set, but the Golden Eagles never surrendered the lead. The Bobcats were able to save six set points before a block by Reagan McLean and Damon would seal the set. UC took the second set with a score of 25-23.
Set three saw outstanding statistics as UC hit .481, with 15 kills as the Golden Eagles offense showed complete domination. UC went on to take ten of the first 15 points. After taking a 20-13 lead, Charleston's offense never looked back and took set three with a final score of 25-14.
The Golden Eagles held the Bobcats to a .011 hitting percentage in the match. Strong hitting percentages of .750 from McKenzie Carpenter and .563 from Bearnson led the offensive effort.
Sage Bearnson also led both teams tonight with 11 kills, totaling 294 kills on the season.
