CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The UC Golden Eagles were able to improve their conference record to 10-1 and their overall record to 23-3 with their 3-0 win over Frostburg State Friday night. Frostburg State fell to 16-11 overall and 4-7 in MEC play.
How It Happened
The Golden Eagles got off to a quick start taking a 13-7 lead on a kill fromSage Bearnson. UC would never look back in the set, as they would win the last three points of the first set on a Bearnson kill, a service ace by Maria Hernandez, and a block by Reagan McLean and Bearnson. Charleston won the first set with a score of 25-19.
The second set started out a little bit different than the first as Frostburg State would jump out to a 13-4 lead before a Golden Eagle timeout. UC would fight their way back to overcome this big deficit and tied the set at 16-16 on a Frostburg attack error. After this point, UC dominated and went on to win the set 25-22 on a kill by McKenzie Carpenter.
The third set was dominated once again by the Golden Eagles. UC jumped out to a 5-2 lead on a Frostburg attack error.Then a kill from Bearnson gave the Golden Eagles match point with the score 24-20. A kill from Pia Selke ended the match with UC winning the match in straight sets.
In kills, Bearnson (15), Selke (13), and McKenzie Damon (7) led the way offensively. Hernandez recorded a double-double with 39 assists and 16 digs. Erin Carmody led the way defensively with 18 digs.

The Golden Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they welcome the Fairmont State Falcons in a massive conference matchup. Fairmont comes in with a record of 9-2 in MEC play and 23-3 overall. They currently hold the number two spot in the MEC North Division. First serve is scheduled for 4PM this afternoon.
