Women's Volleyball Keeps Win Streak Alive with Eight Straight After Defeating D&E

ELKINS, W.Va. - The Golden Eagles were able to keep their win streak alive and improve to an eight games streak as UC beat Davis and Elkins 3-0 tonight. Charleston improved to 12-1 in conference play while Davis and Elkins fell to 7-6. Charleston maintained first place in the south division and Davis and Elkins remained in third place in the south.

How It Happened
In the first set, the teams traded points all the way up to 17-17. A kill by Sage Bearnson gave the Golden Eagles a 18-17 lead, and Charleston would not surrender the lead the rest of the set. The Golden Eagles went on to win the set 25-19 with the final point coming on a kill from Pia Selke

The second set was a little bit different, as the Golden Eagles were able to jump out to a 7-2 lead on a Selke service ace. UC would never allow Davis & Elkins back into the set as they would go on to win 25-18 on a kill from McKenzie Damon.  

The third set was much different from the other two, as Davis & Elkins was able to jump out to a mini lead of 8-5. The Golden Eagles were able to fight back to level the score at 10 on a solo block by Damon. UC then went on a 7-2 run to take a 17-12 lead and never looked back. The Golden Eagles would win the third set 25-23 on a kill from McKenzie Carpenter.

UC was led offensively by Selke with 11 kills and Reagan McLean with 7 kills. Maria Hernandez dished out 25 assists and led the way defensively with 13 digs to complete another double-double.  

Up Next
The Golden Eagles will take on Glenville State Friday at home at 7PM. The Pioneers are currently 14-14, 3-9 in the MEC, and hold fourth place in the South Division.
