WARREN, Ohio – The Charleston men, Glenville State women maintained their leads at the 2022 Mountain East Conference Golf Championships at Avalon Lakes Golf Course in Warren, Ohio.
Charleston finished +13 on the day and leads with a +29 heading into Wednesday's final round. Rory Gorman (+3) led Charleston and the day two leaderboard with a two-under-par on the day. The Golden Eagles' Cole Darbyshire (+7) and Erik Ulvang (+9) joined Gorman in the Top 10. Davis & Elkins is currently in second place (trailing by one stroke) and has three players in the Top 10 going into tomorrow. The Senators have been paced by Jack Coleman (6th), Lewis Beeden (T-7th) and Evan Lewis (T-10th). The schools joining Charleston and D&E following the day two cut include Glenville State (+35), Fairmont State (+38), West Liberty (+46) and West Virginia Wesleyan (+56).
West Liberty's Alex Easthom (+1) finished atop the leaderboard for the second-consecutive day. He shot a two over-par 74 in the second round.
Glenville State (+38) edged Charleston (+39) by one stroke in round two to remain in first place in the women's tournament. The Pioneers enter championship Wednesday with a 12 shot lead (+75-to-+87) at the top of the leaderboard. Davis & Elkins (+104), Wheeling (+109), West Liberty (+141) and Concord (+158) rounded out the top six making the final cut. The Pioneers continue to have four golfers in the Top 10 on the leaderboard including Kendall Wall (2
nd), Hailey Henderschott (3
rd), Holly Elliot (T-9
th), and Grace Halcrow (T-9
th).
UC's Iciar Canalejo (+9) topped the leaderboard for the women following day 2. She leads the rest of the field by four shots.
The University of Charleston is seeking its fourth MEC championship since 2017 in men's and women's golf.
The third and final round of play begins Wednesday morning at 8:20 a.m. with the women starting on the front-nine and the men beginning play on the back-nine.
