How it Happened
Dani Bauer had a strong pitching performance allowing only three hits while striking out 12. However, the effort was not enough as the Golden Eagles fell to the tournament host Queens University 3-1.
The game's first runs scored when Queens was able to string together their only three hits of the ballgame in the bottom of the third. With two runners on, designated player Haley Nelson popped a three-run homerun to left center. Bauer shut down the Royals the rest of the game.
The Golden Eagles would respond in the top of the fourth. Kendal Marshall led off the inning with a sharply hit single up the middle and would advance to second base on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Emma Groe. With one out, Allysa Lake singled to left center to plate Marshall to cut into the Queens lead.
UC would mount a minor threat in the seventh when Gracie Donato, 1-2 on the day, led off the inning with a walk. Queens pitching would retire the next three batters to seal the victory.

How it Happened
Charleston continued their offensive struggles at the plate in game two falling to Lees-McRae 7-1. The pitcher for the Bobcats, Megan Powell, was in control throughout the game. Her shutout bid was spoiled by Allysa Lake with two outs in the bottom of the seventh when she hit a laser over the right-center field fence.
The Bobcats took the lead in the top of the first inning when Lauren Ritchie took a Morgan Hoppe pitch over the left field fence. The Bobcats would put the game out of reach when Megan Powell struck on offense with a 3-run homer in the 4th inning.
Lees-McRae would close out their scoring for the day in the sixth inning after a costly two-out error allowed two runs to score and then adding another on a passed ball.
Lake finished the contest 2-2 with a homer and an RBI. Kendal Marshall and Gracie Donato also picked up a hit giving them both two for the opening day. Morgan Hoppe was tagged for the loss in her first start of the year. Mahea Haegele pitched three innings in relief without surrendering an earned run.

The Golden Eagles will return to the field on Sunday to close out the Queens Invitational. They open the day against Lees McRae at 10:00am and will then play Queens at 12:30pm.
