How it Happened
The Golden Eagles took an early 4-0 lead early in game one again Lees McRae, but defense and pitching mistakes allowed the Bobcats to overcome the deficit to post an 8-4 victory.

UC's early lead came in the second inning as Morgan Hoppe led off the inning with a sharp single up the middle. Mikayla Ferguson then laid down a textbook sacrifice bunt that was not handled cleanly by the Bobcats. Brittany Ogg put Hoppe and Ferguson in scoring position with another sacrifice bunt. Hannah Rose plated both runners with a ringing double off the centerfield fence. Rose would make the score 3-0 as she came around to score on consecutive wild pitches.

With two out in the top of the fourth inning, Mikayla Ferguson punished a Raygan Rensing delivery to straight away centerfield for her first homerun of the season pushing the UC lead to 4-0. Ferguson finished the day 1-2 with a walk, a homer, and an RBI.

Dani Bauer toed the rubber and started off strong as she held the Bobcats scoreless through three. In the fourth, Bauer allowed two singles to open the inning. She bounced back with two strikeouts, but a UC defensive miscue provided opportunities for the home team. A double and a homerun allowed Lees McRae to tie up the ballgame, 4-4.
