The Basics

How it Happened
With a 2-1 record, the University of Charleston entered Ron Christopher Stadium Friday night to take on the defending National Champions, Wingate University. Charleston's Casey Finck led the charge on offense with a dominating performance going 4-5 with three RBI's and two runs scored. In the sixth inning, Pete Costigan hit a single to right field and Braxton Boddorf scored from second. J.D Armstrong then drew a bases-loaded walk and scored Casey Finck. The Golden Eagles closed the gapped in the 7th, making the score 7-5, however Wingate continued to expand the lead. With the bases loaded in the 8th inning, Finck grounded out to the pitcher, but scored Brayden McCallister. 
The Golden Eagles were out hit as they lost 6-17.

How it Happened
Bryce Toussaint put on an offensive display at the plate Saturday night, but it was not enough as the Golden Eagles fell to Wingate 6-10. Toussaint finished his day going 3-4 with a home run, double, and three RBI's. Finck gave the Golden Eagles an early 1-0 lead with an RBI groundout. Wingate answered in with three in the bottom of the frame. Costigan's RBI single in the top of the fourth cut the lead to two, but Wingate answered with two more in the bottom of the frame. Toussaint led off the top of the fifth inning with a solo shot to make it a three-run game. With a 7-3 Wingate leading ball game, Toussaint hit a two-run single that made it a two-run game. The Bulldogs responded with three runs. Wingate's Jed Bryant went five-for-six Saturday afternoon, hitting for the cycle. 
Wingate won with a final score of 6-10.

How it Happened
Going into game 3, the Bulldogs struck first with a two-run Michael Dansky blast in the bottom of the first inning, and then again in the 4th inning with a Mitch Farris solo shot leaving the score 3-0, Wingate leading. The Golden Eagles struck back when Giano Zuccaro had a home run in the 5th inning, the first of his career. This left the score 3-1 in favor of Wingate. Still in the 5th inning, Braxton Boddorf laid down a safety squeeze, scoring Toussaint to get the Golden Eagles one run closer with a score of 3-2. Wingate punched back in the 6th inning, first when Justin Guy had a sacrifice fly that plated Farris, then Andrew Mostinger doubled to center field clearing the bases and collecting 3 RBI in the process pushing the score to 7-2. The Golden Eagles who battled all weekend struck back with 4 runs of their own in the 7th inning via a sacrifice fly from Tyler Dellerman, an RBI single from Finck, and another RBI single by Costigan. 
The Golden Eagles threatened multiple times during the 8th and 9th innings but to no avail, left the final score at 7-6 in favor of Wingate. 

Up Next
The Golden Eagles will again be on the road this coming week as they take on another SAC opponent, Carson-Newman University for a three-game series beginning Friday.
