Men’s Tennis Skips over the Scots 4-2

Canton, OH- The Charleston Men's Tennis Team extended its undefeated season with a 4-2 win over the Edinboro Fighting Scots. The Golden Eagles now sit at 5-0 on the season.

How it Happened:
The matched opened with the doubles pair of Lennert Stevens and Jowan Rawson winning 6-1 at third doubles. The second doubles pair of Daniel Llorente and Krish Patel clinched the doubles point with a score of 7-5. Drew Dagostine and John Giesberts completed the doubles sweep with a tie-breaker win 7-6 (12-10)

The singles portion of the match was played on four courts, with the top four singles players taking the court first. Patel finished his match first with a 6-3, 6-4 win at 4th singles, giving the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead. Minutes later, Edinboro won the 3rd singles spot to bring the score to 2-1. Llorente captured the next win at the number 1 slot by a score of 6-4, 6-3 extending the lead to 3-1. Again, only minutes later, Edinboro pulled within a point with a win at number 2 singles.

With Charleston leading 3-2, Stevens (5th singles) and Rawson (6th singles) took the court. It was Lennert Stevens who provide the clinching match victory 6-2, 6-1. With the match decided, the 6th singles match was left unfinished with Rawson leading 7-5, 1-1.

Man of the match goes to Lennert Stevens. He dropped only 4 games on the day and provided the clinching point for the win.

Coach Santen said, "I was really pleased with the way that Lenny (Stevens) played today. His effort, intensity, and level of play was incredible." Captain John Giesberts added, "Lenny (Stevens) played confidently today and had a very convincing win with the match on the line."

Coach Sam Clarke expressed, "While we were a bit sluggish at points in the match, the boys rose to the occasion at the right times to secure the win today."

The Golden Eagles will take on Mercyhurst University, February 25th at 6pm in Erie, Pennsylvania.
