Eagles sail over Lakers 6-1

Erie, Pa.- The UC Golden Eagles Men's Tennis defeated regional opponent Mercyhurst University 6-1 on Friday night.

The Basics:
Location: Westwood Racket Club
Score: UC 6, MU 1
Records: UC 6-0, MU 2-3

How it Happened:
The Charleston men's tennis team defeated the Mercyhurst Lakers by a score of 6-1 at the Westwood Racket Club in Erie, Pennsylvania. For the sixth time in a row, Charleston claimed the doubles point. For the fourth time in a row, Charleston swept all three doubles matches.

After claiming the doubles point, the top four singles players took the court. John Giesberts notched the first singles win at the number two position. Giesberts avenged a loss to David Ainpetide from Spring 2021 by a score of 6-1, 7-5. Drew Dagostine (number 3 singles) won the third point. It was Daniel Llorente who clinched the match for the Golden Eagles at number one singles by a score of 6-4, 7-5. Krish Patel and Jowan Rawson won at number 4 and 6 respectively.

Man of the Match goes to Drew Dagostine. He dropped only 10 games on the day, winning in both singles and doubles. About Dagostine, Coach Clarke said, "Very solid performance by Drew today. He's been battling some injuries, but competed well. He was focused today on taking care of business."

"This was a good regional win for us. Mercyhurst is always a top team in the PSAC and the Atlantic Region, so the win sends the message that the regional championship goes through Charleston" said Coach Santen.

The win extends the team's record to 6-0.

Up Next:
Charleston will travel to Orlando, Florida where they will play 4 matches over Spring Break.
