HOW IT HAPPENED
Charleston entered the conference contest fresh off a win over non-conference opponent Bluefield State. Sophomore Tyler Eberhart returned to action after a long injury hiatus and added 8 points off the bench. Dwaine Osborne's squad looked to gather some momentum in the home stretch of the season while looking forward to the MEC tournament in just a few weeks.
Wesleyan would score the first basket of the night after a missed layup by Lamont McManus. The lead would only last 27 seconds before Charleston regained the advantage for the rest of the night. The Golden Eagles started the game off slower than expected only scoring 14 to the Bobcats' 9 eight minutes into the first half. Charleston began to find their rhythm after the midway point in the half. Shunta Wilson had a huge high flying put-back dunk with just under five minutes to play to make the score 33-19 in favor of Charleston. Isaiah Gable, who uncharacteristically struggled from beyond the arc added another slam with two minutes left in the first half. Keith Williams also started to heat up toward the end of the first with. Turnovers plagued the Bobcats and Charleston would capitalize with 13 points off turnovers in the period. As both teams entered the locker room the Golden Eagles held a 46-23 lead over the Bobcats.
Charleston once came out slow once again in the second half, adding just 8 points through the first five minutes of the second half. Keith Williams added his 19
th point of the night on a pull up jumper with 14:36 remaining in the game to make the score 58-34 UC. Eddie Colbert III and Isiah Gable made back-to-back threes just before the midway point in the second half to give UC a 28-point. Sophomore forward Tyler Eberhart notched his 8
th point off the bench on the night after draining two foul shots with 9:14 left to play in the half. Shortly after, Isaiah Gable further added to the lead with notching his eighth point on his second three from long range on the night. At the 4:54 Dwaine Osborne was forced to call a timeout after the Bobcats scored their ninth unanswered point in two minutes. The timeout would prove useful as the Golden Eagles were able to settle back down and take control of the game from there.
With time winding down the Golden Eagles continued to add to their already insurmountable lead with made buckets by Shaunn Monroe and Kobey Lam. Shaunn Monroe would have the honors of dribbling out the clock as UC took down the visiting Bobcats 92-63.
