Golden Eagles Send Bears into Hibernation with 7-0 Win

Charleston, W.Va.- Golden Eagles defeat the Bears of Shaw University 7-0 in first home match of the year. 

The Basics:

Records: UC 8-2, Shaw 0-3

How it Happened:
Fresh off their Spring Break trip, the men's tennis team returned to action to battle both the cold and the Shaw Bears. Charleston went deep into their line up playing all 11 players in the starting line-up. The Golden Eagles won all three doubles matches to take the doubles point.

In singles action it was Daniel Llorente (#23) , at first singles who extended the lead to 2-0 by a score of 6-3, 6-3. Krish Patel, playing 3rd singles won the third point Charleston. It was Felipe Girondi at number 5 singles who clinched the match for the Golden Eagles by a score of 6-1, 6-4. Alex Martinez, Jack Bowman and John Giesberts rounded out the sweep with wins at 4, 6 and 2 respectively.

Man of the match goes to Felipe Girondi. He not only clinched the match but also lost the least amount of games.

Coach Matt Santen said "I was very proud of the guys we inserted into the line-up today. It shows how deep we are and it speaks to how we push each other in practice every day to make everyone better."

The win extends the team's record to 8-2.
