CHARLESTON, W.Va- The Golden Eagle Men's Volleyball team fell in three sets to visiting Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday night.

The energy inside Wehrle Arena was unlike any other of the season up to this point for the Golden Eagles. The Charleston Baseball and Men's Tennis teams were out in full force to support Golden Eagle Volleyball on Friday night. Luke Reynolds' squad gave fans much to cheer about in the first set as the Golden Eagles took a big 12-8 lead early.The Mastodons came storming back to take a 15-14 lead before Coach Luke Reynolds was forced to call a timeout to kill the momentum. Back-to-back blocks by UC's Diego Villafane soon knotted the score at 16. However, the Mastodons would take the next four out of five points and take a 20-17 lead late in the set. Momentum for the Golden Eagles was halted after a close call on a swing by Jakub Osiewala didn't go in favor of Charleston. Charleston responded well and brought the score to within one at 22-21. Ultimately however, the Mastodons outlasted the Golden Eagles in set one 25-21.

Mastodon momentum carried over to the second set taking a commanding 13-8 lead early. The Golden Eagles came stormed all the way back and tied the score at 16. Arthur Seuer proceeded to smash a kill over into the Mastodon half. It was followed quickly by an error the visitors and Charleston took their first lead of the set at 18-16. The packed house was giving energy to the Golden Eagles all night and that was never more evident than in the second set. Every kill by Charleston crowd into a frenzy. The Mastodons were able to overcome the electric crowd and finish the second set 25-23.

Charleston began the third with a 6-2 run that was quickly erased in the five points that proceeded it. Down 10-7 in the third Coach Luke Reynolds called another timeout to stall the momentum of Purdue Fort Wayne. Out of the timeout Charleston would notch just one point of the next four that followed and would go down 13-8 in the set. They would mount a small comeback to bring the score to within three at 14-11. Back-to-back points off a service error and an service ace put the Mastodons up 16-11, forcing yet another timeout by Coach Reynolds. Despite the best energy from the UC crowd, Charleston would be unable to mount a comeback and would lose the set 25-15.

Garret Schnitker led the way for the Golden Eagles notching seven kills. Diego Villafane recorded six digs in the match on defense.
