MTEN: Golden Eagles Defeat Oilers with Clinch from Dagostine

Charleston, W.Va.- Golden Eagles take 4-3 victory over the Oilers after losing the doubles point. 

The Basics:

Score: UC 4, UF 3
Records: UC 9-2, Findlay 5-10

How it Happened:
The Men's Tennis team struggled early, but came on strong in its home opener against the Findlay Oilers. Dropping the doubles point for only the second time this season, the Golden Eagles won at first doubles and lost at second and third doubles.

Number one singles player, Daniel Llorente quickly tied the score at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The next 4 matches finished at nearly the same time, with Charleston taking 2nd and 4th singles and Findlay taking 5th and 6th singles. With the match tied at 3-3, the deciding point on the line, Senior Drew Dagostine was battling in the 3rd set. With both teams lined up to the adjacent court to watch the match, the both Dagostine and his opponent battled on every point. Dagostine eventually prevailed, winning the match 6-1, 1-6, 7-5 to clinch the win. "It was nuts having my teammates right there on the court next to me. They provided so much energy for me to play well and stay focused," said Dagostine.

Of the match, Coach Santen said, "Findlay really came to play today. They played well, but our guys stood strong and came out on top."

Man of the match goes to Drew Dagostine for his clinch win.

The win puts the Golden Eagles at 9-2. They are currently ranked #18 in the country.

The Golden Eagles will face off with Walsh University on Friday, March 18th at 3pm at the Shoenbaum Tennis Courts.
