How It Happened

From the start, the game proved to be a close battle, with Tiffin leading 3-2 after the first quarter.  Freshman, Sophia Conzone, put up both goals in the first quarter for the Eagles.

The Eagles fought back to earn a lead on the Dragons by halftime.  Freshman Gabby Bianchi tied the game for the Golden Eagles less than a minute into the 2nd quarter.  The scoring continued back and forth between the Eagles and the Dragons.  Conzone was able to score a free position goal at the 8 minute mark, and with an assist from Bianchi, freshman, Sydney Verlinghieri, gave the Eagles the lead shortly after.   The Eagles finished the quarter up 7-5 with unanswered goals by senior, Colleen Ryan, and Conzone.  The Eagle defense held strong in the 2nd quarter with 4 saves by junior goalie, Georgia Ryan.

The Eagles offense came out ready from halftime putting up two quick goals at the start of the 3rd.  Assisted by graduate student, Meghan Smith, senior Colleen Ryan put up her second goal for the Eagles a little over 2 minutes into the quarter.  Shortly after, Conzone put up her 4th of the game giving the Eagles a comfortable 9-5 lead over the Dragons.  Sophomore, Kaiya Robertson's assist to Verlinghieri gave the Eagles a 10-6 lead late in the 3rd.

The Eagles started the 4th quarter with a 10-7 lead. With a short bench, the Eagles were looked to run down the clock as much as they could.  The Dragons were not ready to lay down yet, continuing to put pressure on the Eagle defense. With 3 minutes left, the Dragons put up a free position goal making it a 10-9 game.  After a UC yellow card with 40 seconds left, the Dragons attempted to use their man-up opportunity to tie the game. Eagle's Goalie, Ryan, made a game saving stop on Tiffin's free position attempt to give the Eagles possession with 29 seconds remaining in regulation.

Overall, Goalie, Georgia Ryan, made 8 saves for the Eagles; while, Freshman, Riley Johnson, added with 3 of the team's 14 caused turnovers in the game.  Sophomore, Gianni Blundell, along with Verlinghieri dominated the midfield with 4 draw controls apiece.  The Eagles put up 27 shots to Tiffin's 18.  Offensively, Freshman, Conzone had another big game putting up 5 goals on 8 shots and 1 assist, making her the team leader in goals and points on the season.

The Eagles bring the competition back home this Wednesday as they prepare to face the Missouri Western State University Griffons for their last game before beginning conference play.  The game will take place at Walsh Athletic Complex on the 23rd a 7:00pm.
