How it Happened

Game One
Charleston hitters, other than Morgan Hoppe, struggled at the plate for the opening game on the road at Glenville State. UC fell 2-1 after allowing two unearned runs to score.

Pioneers starting pitcher Holly Brehm stymied the Golden Eagle offense as she only surrendered two hits, allowed one run, and struck out 11 in the complete game victory.

The entire UC offense was supported by Morgan Hoppe who had the team's only two hits. Her first hit came with two outs in the second inning as she launched a Brehm offering over the left field fence to give the Golden Eagles a short-lived 1-0 lead.

Dani Bauer pitched well enough to win the ball game, but a defensive miscue was all that it took to flip the scoreboard. In the bottom of the second, with two outs and a runner on base, an errant throw put runners on the corners. With the inning extended, Sophia Delveccio took advantage of the opportunity as she drove a Bauer pitch to the right field fence, scoring both runners.

The UC offense put together one other threat in the 5th inning when Hoppe picked up her second base hit of the ball game. Pinch runner Lindsey Reavis stole second base but was left stranded.

Bauer was the tough-luck loser as she only surrendered five hits, no earned runs, and struck out nine.

Game Two
It seemed as though UC found their bats in between games of the doubleheader. Game 2 was shortened by the 8-run rule, as the Golden Eagles pounded out 11 hits and scored 11 runs in the contest.

The star of the game, once again, was Morgan Hoppe. She not only picked up the win in the circle, pushing her record to 6-2, but she also smacked a grand slam and a double while picking up five RBIs.

Hannah Rose also had a stellar game at the plate as she was 3-4 with two doubles, an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored.
