Orlando, Fl.- The UC Golden Eagles Men's Tennis team lose first match of the year in a very close battle with Davenport University.

How it Happened:
Charleston drops first match of the year to Davenport University in Orlando, Florida. For the seventh time in a row, Charleston won the doubles point. The Golden Eagles won at first doubles and third doubles.

Lennert Stevens put Charleston up 2-0 with a convincing win at number six singles by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Davenport then won the next three singles match in third set tie-breakers at 2, 3 and 4 singles. Daniel Llorente then knotted up the match at 3-3 with a win at first singles. The match came down to number 5 singles where Freshman Jowan Rawson lost a close match 6-2, 5-7, 9-11. This gave the Davenport the victory 4-3. All four of Davenports points came from third set super tie-breakers.

Of the match, Coach Matt Santen said, "In my 16 years of coaching, I don't think I have ever lost a closer match where all of the opponents points came from third set super tie-breakers. And of those first super breakers, three of them were lost by a score of 9-11. I'm still in shock."

Grad Student and number one singles player Dani Llorente said, "This was a hard match to lose, but I feel we take a lot away from this in pursuit of the goal to win the conference and make Nationals."
