BB: Charleston Sweeps Three Game Series Against Bluefield State - Dellerman Walks it Off in Game Two

Charleston, W. Va – Charleston wins all three home games against Bluefield State College. 

The Basics

Game 1
The scoring started when Jordan Bailey reached first to lead off the bottom half of the first inning. After a sacrifice bunt by Braxton Boddorf, and a stolen base, Bailey scored after Tyler Dellerman grounded out to second base. Bluefield State answered back with a solo homerun by Cole Cote in the top of second inning. 
 
Charleston quickly answered back as Drew Klaserner led the charge with a leadoff walk. After three consecutive walks to Costigan, Toussaint, and Bailey, Klaserner crossed home to give UC the 2-1 lead. With a two-out, two RBI single from Boddorf, Toussaint and Costigan scored. Dellerman hit a triple to left field and gave the Golden Eagles a 6-1 lead.
 
After a few walks and a hit by pitch, Bluefield answered back with a big inning of their own, after Cote homered with the bases loaded to put the game within one. 

UC got right back in the scoring column in the bottom of the third inning to bring the score to 8-5 in favor of Charleston. 
 
Bluefield continued to fight back in the top of the fourth inning after the bases were loaded with 0 outs. Robbie Shepherd entered the game for the Golden Eagles and quickly got two outs with a double play. Popplewell then came into the game to face the left-handed batter Jarred Simpson. Simpson singled to right field and scored two more, tying the game at 8-8. 
 
Charleston's offense continued and gave UC 12-8 lead. Cole Peschl then took the mound for the Golden Eagles, pitching two and a third, giving up a homerun. UC then took a 14-9 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Caleb Rush came in to close the door in the top of the seventh and collected the last two outs of the game to give the Golden Eagles a victory over Bluefield State 14-9.

Game 2  
In game two of the three-game series between Charleston and Bluefield State, the scoring kicked off with a homerun from Bluefield's Brayden Merrick in the top of the second inning. UC battled back in the bottom of the third inning when Tyler Dellerman scored from third, as Kyle West stole second, then quickly scampered to third on a throwing error. 
 
In the fourth inning, Bluefield's Roman Moore doubled down the left field line and scored Taylor Tibbs to leave the score at 2-1 in favor of BSC. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Golden Eagles battled back with two runs as Clay Hale tripled off the left field wall and scored Giano Zuccaro. Charleston took the lead with 3-2 after a single from Andre Martinez. BSC knotted up the score 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single from Cole Cote. The score remained the same through the sixth and the top of the seventh innings, thanks to a stellar throw from Casey Finck in right field to Dellerman at the plate to cut down the go-ahead run. Dellerman added to his heroics in the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk-off homerun. The Golden Eagles won 4-3.

Game 3 
Charleston runs started in the bottom of the first inning when Chartier singled to left field and Dellerman scored. After the first inning, Charleston led Bluefield State 4-0. UC did not score again until the bottom of the third inning to make the score 5-0. After the fifth inning, UC led 10-0. Two more runs were added in the sixth inning. 
 
Drew Beckner pitched sixth innings with nine strikeouts and zero earned runs. Owen MacNeil came into relieve, pitched one inning, and struck out two batters. 
 
Game three concluded after a short lightning delay that resulted in the game being called official. Due to official rules, the game reverted to the previous completed inning. The Golden Eagles won with a score of 12-0. 

Up Next: Charleston plays Salem University in one, 7-inning game followed with one, 7-inning game against Mercyhurst University on Saturday, March 12th. One, 9-inning game will be played on Sunday, March 13th.
