CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Golden Eagle Men's Volleyball team earned their first ever sweep of Harvard University after defeating the Crimson back-to-back nights in four sets.

MATCH ONE

On Friday night the Golden Eagles were poised to play spoiler and upset the Crimson of Harvard University. They got behind early in the match, losing the first set 25-22. However, a big theme of the night would be limiting unforced errors on their side of the net. In set one Charleston did just that to the tune of just one error in 21 total attacks, but were unable to come away with a win.

In the second Charleston tallied 11 kills with just three errors in 26 attacks, good enough for a .308 hitting percentage. They were assisted by a multitude of errors on the Crimson end as Harvard committed eight errors in the set. Garret Schnitker, picked up four of his six kills in the match in the second, leading the Golden Eagles on offense in the set. UC would end the second 26-24.

They kept on their roll by winning the third 25-21. Tallying 10 kills on 26 attempts with four errors, outhitting the Crimson .231 to .091. Lachlan Bray ended the third with four kills and Jake Vorburger totaled three in the set.

Vorburger was utterly dominant in the final set of the evening. He picked up 12 of his 15 kills in the final set and led the Golden Eagles to a thrilling win. Charleston faced seven set points in the fourth but managed to hold off the Crimson every single time. They were able to rally three straight points to come back from down 32-31 and take the final set of the night 34-32.

Vorburger ended the night hitting an astonishing .406, committing just two errors on 32 swings with 15 kills to boot. Lachlan Bray was a bit less efficient but was still the kill leader for Charleston in the Friday contest, totaling 16 kills. Nathan Avitia, and Diego Villafane tallied 22 and 14 assists respectively.

MATCH TWO

The Saturday contest would go to five sets with the Golden Eagles coming out on top 15-11 in the final set. Harvard was once again able to take the first set, this time by a final score of 25-17. 14 kills by the Crimson played a large part in their success in the first set.

The second set went to Charleston once again, this time by a score of 25-22. Lachlan Bray led Charleston with four kills in the second, while Ismael Sneed had two kills and no errors in the set.

UC would once again take the third set by a final of 26-24. With the score knotted at 24 a piece a kill by Hudson Harris gave UC the lead and an attack error by Harvard finished the set. Sneed picked up three more kills in the set.

Charleston struggled in the fourth and fell 25-13. However, head coach Luke Reynolds was able to rally his troops and bring up their energy in preparation for a fifth and final set.

UC would come out firing, winning seven of the first 10 points to take a commanding 7-3 lead. It would prove to be insurmountable for the Crimson as Charleston was able to hold on for a 15-11 victory. A big swing by Ismael Sneed closed out the sweep for the Golden Eagles.  Sneed, Osiewala, and Bray all picked up two kills each in the final set.
