WLAX: Conzone Sets School Record as Golden Eagles Down Senators 13-8

CHARLESTON, W.Va – Women's Lacrosse picked up a big win over MEC opponent Davis & Elkins on Thursday, April 21. Leading the way was freshman Sophia Conzone. Her school record 10 goals propelled the Golden Eagles to a 13-8 victory over the Senators.
 
The Senators struck first in the opening quarter, with a goal by Ari Hinton. Sophia Conzone responded quickly tallying the first of her 10 goals with her 29th goal of the season. Davis & Elkins' Hinton tallied another goal and Emily Smith added another to take a lead before the end of the first. Another goal by Conzone and one by Destiny Jackson at the end of the first knotted up the score at 3 all.
 
Charleston would go down early in the second quarter after another Senator goal, but three unanswered goals by Conzone and two more from Kayleigh Burns and Meghan Smith pushed the lead to 8-4.
 
There was a GK change in the second for Charleston that saw Junior Georgia Ryan enter the game. She would split the game with Jasmine James and the two combined for 10 saves and allowed eight goals.
 
The third quarter would see three goals all by Conzone and two by the Senators. After the third UC led 11-6.
 
Conzone would notch two final goals to bring her total to 10 on the day while the Senators rallied late in the game but were unable to overcome the five goal deficit at the end of the third.
 
For the game Conzone had a .667 shooting percentage while picking up four groundballs and causing one turnover. Destiny Jackson had one goal, one assist and five draw controls in the game. Meghan Smith and Kayleigh Burns added one goal each and caused two turnover a piece.

Sophia broke the previous school record of eight goals in a game set by Emma Renda and is now tied for 5th in goals in a single game in NCAA history. She moved her season total to 38 and leads the Golden Eagles in goals and points for the season.
