MTEN: Golden Eagles Fly Through to the MEC Finals

Charleston, W.Va.- Golden Eagles defeat Bobcats in MEC Semifinal to advance to championship Sunday where they will face off West Liberty. 

The Basics:

How it Happened:
The men's tennis team won their 20th match and the MEC semi-final match by a score of 4-0 over the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats. It was their 5th consecutive win over Wesleyan in the past two seasons.

Charleston won the doubles points, taking 1st and 3rd doubles by scores of 6-3 and 6-2 respectively. Heading into singles, the men needed to capture three matches to secure the victory. First off the court was Jake Magill, winning at 6th singles without losing a game. The next win came from Freshman Jowan Rawson (5th singles) by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Marshall Dagostine provided the clinch point at 4th singles by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Marshall just edged out his doubles partner, John Giesberts for the clinch point as Giesberts had match point and 2nd single when the match was decided.

Of the match, Coach Sam Clarke said, "Our boys came ready to play. Every one of them knew what he needed to do and executed brilliantly." Coach Santen said, "Today was a great day. Five of our players received all-conference awards. Dani Llorente was voted Player of the year. Senior John Giesberts graduated with honors. We beat our conference rival. And I was honored by my peers to be named Coach of the Year."

Man of the Match was Jake Magill who didn't lose a game all day.
