MEC Selects Nine Golden Eagles to All-MEC Baseball Teams - West Tabbed Freshman of the Year

CHARLESTON, W.Va- The Mountain East Conference Announced their 2022 baseball awards this week and the South Division Champion Golden Eagles had nine total selections.
 
Kyle West was named the MEC Freshman of the Year for his efforts this season. West, a freshman infielder from Hedgesville, W.Va., batted .344 with 14 doubles, six triples and eight home runs during the 2022 season. He totaled 52 hits on the season and drove in 42 runs at the plate. He also finished the season with a .675 slugging percentage and .420 on-base percentage. As a base runner he scored 36 runs and recorded 16 stolen bases. West was also a second team All-MEC selection at first base.
 
Tyler Dellerman, who was top five in the MEC in almost every statistical offensive category was named to the first team. He batted .412 on the season with 15 doubles, 11 home runs, and 61 RBI. In addition, he tallied 51 runs scored, had a .756 slugging percentage, and had a .502 on base percentage. The Redshirt Junior from Maineville, OH broke the single season school record for RBI in the last week of the season against West Virginia State.
 
Colt Webb and Ethan Soderna were named to the first team as well. The two mainstays in the Golden Eagle rotation combined for 139 innings and struck out 157 opposing batters. Webb held the lowest ERA on the team at 3.33 was second on the team in strikeouts with 77. He was named MEC Pitcher of the Week, Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week, and NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week after recording a no-hitter against Davis & Elkins. Soderna, a graduate transfer from Ohio Wesleyan led the team in wins as he went 8-1 on the season. He collected a team high 80 strikeouts and only allowed 10 extra base hits all year.
 
Braxton Boddorf and Jordan Bailey were named to the second team. Boddorf, a Cary, NC native, was tied for the team lead in hits at the end of the regular season with 63. He batted .391, with 11 doubles, 4 triples, and 3 home runs. He also stole 19 bases on the season and was second in that category right behind Bailey. Bailey, a redshirt senior from Springfield, OH, led the MEC in stolen bases with 34 while hitting, .331 with a .483 on base percentage.
 
Eric Chartier was named to the second team as the sole UC outfielder to receive MEC recognition. The redshirt sophomore from Newmarket, Ontario was a looming power threat in the Golden Eagle lineup when he was healthy. In his 28 games played Chartier hit .386 with 12 doubles, 2 home runs, and 22 RBI. He also scored 28 runs, had a 1.209 OPS, and was 12-12 on stolen base attempts.
 
Cole Peschl was named as All-MEC Honorable Mention as a reliever, the only Golden Eagle who would receive honorable mention this season. Peschl, a freshman from Fairmont, WV, tossed 20 innings, struck out 24, gave up 18 hits, walked just 8, and gave up 12 earned runs.
