VICTOR, NY. – The University of Charleston Men's Golf team qualified for nationals on Saturday afternoon after finishing second in the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional golf tournament at Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor, NY.
 
After day one of the tournament on Thursday, UC was just six shots off the leader St. Thomas Aquinas, and were firmly in second place after posting a combined four over afternoon. Mitch Hoffman, an All-MEC First Team selection for 2022, began his tournament in a tie for sixth place after posting an opening round 71 (-1). He was followed closely by Victor Del Pozo Ramis, who opened with a 73.
 
Day 2 saw the Ravenwood Golf Club become a muddy mess after the copious amounts of rain that had been falling since the beginning of the tournament. The Golden Eagles did well to battle through tough conditions and posted a combined score of 299. Every player on the team shot below a 76 with David Scragg posting a team best 74. Del Pozo Ramis, Hoffman, and Erik Ulvang all finished the second round with 75s. They would cement themselves in third place in the tournament right behind Southern New Hampshire and St. Thomas Aquinas.
 
With the top four teams in the tournament moving on to TPC Michigan in Detroit on May 16-20 for the national tournament, Charleston just needed to play a solid round to book their ticket. They would do just that as the team combined to match their opening round score of 292 and finish in second place in the tournament. They shot a combined 883 and were just two strokes off the leader St. Thomas Aquinas. Their success came with big help from Hoffman, who finished his tournament with a final round 70 (-2) and closed right at even par. Hoffman was bogey free on the back nine while picking up three birdies on 15, 16, and 18.
 
Scragg put together a solid round as well as he posted a third round score of 73. He would bogey two of the first five holes before collecting birdies on six, seven, and eight to go to -1 to close the front nine. From there he had a bogey on both 10, 11, and 18 but a birdie on 16 helped to secure the 73.
 
In Ulvang's  final round he would post a 72 (E) and finish at +5 for the tournament. In his third round he also struggled on the front nine a bit, bogeying three and four before a birdie on five. He would also birdie the par 4 7^th hole right before picking up an unfortunate bogey on 8. On the back nine he birdied both 14 and 15, but a bogey on 10 kept him at even par for the day.
 
Hoffman was awarded regional recognition for his performance over the weekend as he finished tied for 2^nd overall in the tournament right behind Davis & Elkins' Jordan Hyland.
 
Up next the team will head to Detroit to play in the NCAA national tournament held at TPC Michigan on May 16-20.
