BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The University of Charleston edged out Davis & Elkins in the preseason voting and has been named the 2022 preseason favorite in men's golf, the Mountain East Conference office announced on Thursday afternoon following a vote of the league's coaches.
UC got the nod over Davis and Elkins in voting, scoring 78 total points, while receiving six first place votes to the Senators' four. UC finished the spring season placing third at the NCAA Atlantic/East Region qualifier at Ravenwood Golf Club, earning a spot in the NCAA Men's Golf National Championships at TPC Michigan.
After the loss of a few key pieces from their previous team, including 2021 MEC Player of the Year, Mitch Hoffman, head coach Will Johnson will need young talent to step up in their place. returns two of their top golfers in 2022 in sophomores Erik Ulvang and Victor Ramis. Ulvang was tied for 13
th in the Atlantic/East Region qualifier at Ravenwood Golf Club at the end of last season.
The men return to action on September 3
rd for the Vulcan Invitational hosted by California University of Pennsylvania.
