CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The UC Golden Eagles go undefeated in the UC Invitational after wins against Virginia State University and Belmont Abbey College.
The Basics (Match One):

How It Happened:
The Golden Eagles looked to build upon their undefeated record on home court this season when they took the court against Virginia State University on Saturday afternoon.
UC dropped the opening set 27-25, but the Golden Eagles responded to dropping the first set by winning the first ten points of the second set and then cruising to a 25-8 second set win.
The third set included more Charleston dominance, as the Golden Eagles won 12 of the first 15 points. UC would then ride this cushion to take the third set easily with a score of 25-8. The fourth set was more of the same, as the Golden Eagles once again dominated, and won the set 25-11 and the match 3-1.
The Golden Eagles were led offensively by McKenzie Damon and Sage Bearnson whom both registered 14 kills, while Maria Hernandez dished out 39 assists. Defensively, Reagan McLean recorded 8 blocks to lead the way, and Erin Carmody recorded 13 digs to lead the team as well. Bearnson was able to complete her double-double in the first match by also recording 12 digs.
The Golden Eagles would look to keep it going in the nightcap against Belmont Abbey College.

Records: UC (11-2; 0-0 MEC); BAC (2-11; 0-0 CONFERENCE CAROLINAS)
How It Happened:
UC looked to finish the weekend by going undefeated in the UC Invitational and did exactly that.
The Golden Eagles got off to another hot start on the weekend taking the first set by a score of 25-18. They continued their dominance by winning the first five points of the second set in route to winning the set 25-9. The Golden Eagles would once again get out to a fast start against Belmont Abbey College, winning 10 of the first 15 points. This lead would be enough for the Golden Eagles as they would go on to win the set 25-13.
Charleston was led offensively by Damon and Bearnson with 14 and 8 kills respectively. Hernandez dished out 33 assists. Defensively, Carmody led the way with 15 digs. The Golden Eagles improved to 11-2 on the season.

UC will return to the Innovation Center next weekend with the UC Tri-Match scheduled to take place on Saturday. Charleston will take on Johnson C. Smith University in their first match at 2PM before taking on Central State University at 6PM. This will be the Golden Eagles' last two matches before they begin the much-anticipated MEC play on Tuesday, September 20
th.
