WINTER PARK, F.L. - The Golden Eagles had another impressive weekend of competition. UC went 2-2 on the weekend, bringing their season record to 6-2 after wins against Spring Hill University and Rollins College.
The Basics (Match One)

Score: Charleston 3, Spring Hill 2

The Golden Eagles kicked off the action this weekend with a pair of matches on Friday afternoon. The first match coming against Spring Hill University, and the Golden Eagles got off to a slow start losing the first set 25-18. That slow start did not last long as UC stormed back to take the second set, 25-19, and the third set, 25-21.
The fourth set was tightly contested, coming all the way down to the last points. Unfortunately, Charleston was unable to come out on top as they lost the set 26-24. Spring Hill forced a fifth and deciding set played to 15. The fifth set was neck and neck as the teams' traded points until UC was able to get a little bit of separation with a kill by Pia Selke to make it 6-5, then an attack error by the Badgers made it 7-5. A kill by McKenzie Damon was all the separation the Golden Eagles needed in the set to never give the lead back.
The Golden Eagles had four hitters get into double digits in the kill column, Damon (10), McKenzie Carpenter (11), Selke (13), and Sage Bearnson led the way with 15 kills. Erin Carmody led the way on defense with 39 digs. Maria Hernandez dished out 53 assists in the first match of the day as well. The Golden Eagles then turned their attention to the nightcap to try and keep their undefeated record alive.
The Basics (Match Two)

Score: Charleston 3, Rollins 2
Records: UC (6-0, 0-0 MEC); RC (1-5, 0-0 SUNSHINE STATE)
The nightcap saw the Golden Eagles taking on the Rollins College Tars. The Golden Eagles once again got off to a slow start, losing the first set 25-22 but like the first game of the day, UC came back to take set two, 25-23, and set three, 25-18. UC then dropped a tight fourth set. Charleston's Morgan Walter made the score 7-4 after back-to-back service aces in the fifth set. UC took the fifth set, 15-12 and won the second match.
UC was once again led offensively by Sage Bearnson who had 21 kills to bring her total for the day to 36 kills. Maria Hernandez dished out 49 assists to bring her to a total of 102 for the day. Defensively the Golden Eagles were led by Morgan Walter who had 14 digs.
The Basics (Match Three)

Score: Charleston 0, Barry 3
Records: UC (6-1, 0-0 MEC); BU (7-0, 0-0 SUNSHINE STATE)
After winning both matches on Friday in five sets, it was a battle of two unbeaten teams, as the Golden Eagles came in at 6-0 and the Barry University Buccaneers also came into the contest at 6-0. Unfortunately, for the Golden Eagles, their winning ways would come to an end in this match.
In the first set, the teams traded points until the score reached 15-15. The Buccaneers went on a 7-2 run that provided them enough of a cushion to never surrender the lead again and they took the first set 25-21. Barry would then go on to take the second set by the same score of 25-21. In the third set, the Golden Eagles would lose seven of the first ten points and would not be able to recover, losing the set 25-19. Bearnson tallied 15 kills to reach double digits for the third time in the weekend. Carmody led the way defensively with 10 digs. Maria Hernandez also dished out 26 assists.
The Basics (Match Four)
Location: Winter Park, F.L. (Warden Arena)
Score: Charleston 1, Florida Tech 3
Records: UC (6-2, 0-0 MEC); FT (5-3, 0-0 SUNSHINE STATE)
Florida Tech came into the match at 4-3 on the season. In a tightly contested first set, the Golden Eagles were not able to prevail as they fell 28-26. The Golden Eagles tried to fight back and regain some momentum in the second set, but they dropped another tightly contested set 25-23. UC gained some momentum as they were able to take the fourth set 25-15. Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles were not able to keep the momentum going into set number four, dropping the set 25-9 and losing the match three games to one.
In this match, the Golden Eagles had four players register double digit kills, Bearnson (10), Carpenter (11), Selke (13), and they were led by Damon with 15 kills. Bearnson had a very impressive weekend, recording double digit kills in all four matches. Maria Hernandez dished out 39 more assists in this match, bringing her total to 139 assists for the weekend. Defensively, Erin Carmody led the way with 32 digs. McKenzie Damon also recorded a double-double in the match, 15 kills and 19 digs.

They will turn their attention to Catawba College on Wednesday at 6pm before coming home for the first time when they host the UC Invitational at home next Friday and Saturday.
