Game Preview
The games, originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday have been moved to Saturday and Sunday due to weather. Saturday will feature two games the first being a 7-inning contest and the second being 9 innings. Sunday will be a full 9 inning game.
UC struggled in their opening weekend against Wingate, dropping all three games to the 12
th ranked Bulldogs. The offense couldn't find a rhythm on Thursday, scoring just one run on three hits while fanning 21 times. Friday and Saturday saw the Golden Eagles combine for 19 hits and 13 runs but gave up 24 runs in 16 innings to their opponent. 10 of the 13 runs came in the fifth inning or later for UC.
For the Huskies, it will be their first action of the 2023 season. Bloomsburg finished last season 25-19-1 going 14-9-1 in PSAC play. They finished 5
th overall in the PSAC East Preseason Poll.
UC has gone 3-2 against the Huskies in their previous five meetings. The last time they met was in the 2021 Atlantic Regional. In the opening round, Charleston fell 3-2 in extra innings thanks to a walk off home run by Bloomsburg's Kyle OFier. Charleston would win two days later 14-8 after pounding out 20 hits, the biggest being a grand slam by right fielder
Hayden Cartt. UC's current utility man and Preseason Third Team All-American
Tyler Dellerman also hit a solo home run in their last meeting.
Kyle West currently is leading UC on offense slashing .308/.357.462. The sophomore from Hedgesville slapped two doubles and stole a base in the opening series against Wingate last weekend.
Sophomore
Drew Beckner is hitting right at .300 after going 3-10 on the weekend.
Drew Klaserner went 3-11 with two home runs and five RBI.
Giano Zuccaro collected just two hits last weekend, but both were extra base hits, a three-run blast and a triple in game two.
Charleston's ace
Ethan Soderna struggled in comparison to his average outing of his 2022 campaign. He worked 5.2 innings in game one, allowing four earned on five hits while walking three and striking out eight.
Freshman
Cody Godbold was one of the lone bright spots for UC pitching early in the opening series. The Aussie worked 3.1 innings in relief on Friday, allowing two runs on two hits while walking three.
