Game Preview

Charleston, after being swept in their first series of the year by top 25 opponent Wingate, turned around and won three straight at home against Bloomsburg. Game one on Saturday saw the Golden Eagles narrowly escape with a walk off base hit by Tyler Dellerman.

In the three game series against Bloomsburg, Andre Martinez led the way on offense, hitting .444 with three runs, and three RBI. Left fielder Giano Zuccaro  went 4-6 with four runs scored in the series. He was 3-3 in game three and currently leads the Golden Eagles, boasting a .429 average with three extra base hits, six runs scored, and three stolen bases.

JD Armstrong had a strong showing against Bloomsburg as he picked up his first hit of the season in game one off the bench. He went 3-6 in the series, scoring three times and knocking in one.

UC's bullpen was a bright spot in the series last weekend. They pitched a combined 13.1 innings while only allowing one run, five walks and fanning 16. Sam Slodic worked three innings in game three, striking out a team high six and only allowing one baserunner via an error.

The Opponent

Ohio Dominican opened play last weekend going 2-1 against University of Virginia at Wise. After losing game one 8-3 ,the Panthers easily won game two 7-1 then relying on some late game magic in game three. Trailing 2-1 in the 8th they added one run in the bottom of the frame before walking it off on a single by Alex Brill, taking the series two games to one.

On offense they are led by Jack Mathey. The Panther backstop tallied 5 hits in 11 at bats in the opening series of the season, good for a .455 average.

On the pitching side, the Panthers likely will run out senior Marshall Flynn for game one. In last week's outing he threw a complete game allowing four hits, one earned run, while striking out eight.

First pitch on Friday is set for 1 pm at Segra Field at the Welch Athletic Complex.
