COLUMBUS, Ga. — The University of Charleston stepped up to the plate for day two of the NFCA DII Leadoff Classic. The team went one-for-one with a heartbreaking loss against Missouri Western State University (6-5) and an explosive win against Hillsdale College (11-3).

Game 1, L (6-5)

Game one was a heartbreaker for the Golden Eagles as defensive miscues cost them the win against the Griffons. Brianna McCown gave up only two earned runs in 7.2 innings pitched with eight strikeouts and zero walks. Hannah Rose led the Golden Eagles by going one-for-three with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Missouri Western tied it up in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run homer. The Griffons then went on to secure the win in the bottom of the eighth on a single down the left field line.

Game 2, W (11-3)

UC came out on fire in game two as they scored seven runs in the bottom of the first. Rose went three-for-three with a walk and two runs scored, while Alyssa Lake went two-for-two with two runs batted in. Addison Mass picked up her first collegiate victory in relief of Dani Bauer. She pitched three shutout innings, surrendering only one hit while striking out seven.
