Box Score 2 Wheeling, W.Va.—UC softball wins game one against WL (8-2), while dropping game two (11-8) after defensive miscues and timely hitting by the Hilltoppers.
Game 1: 8 UC, 2 WL
Brianna McCown (6-2) was solid on the mound as she struck out eight Hilltoppers while only allowing four hits and two walks in seven innings pitched. The two runs scored by West Liberty were unearned. Jeritza Montero went 1-3 with a double, three runs batted in and one run scored, accounting for half of the runs scored by the Golden Eagles. Brionna Bowman went 1-2 with a double, one run batted in, one run scored and a walk.
Game 2: 11 WL, 8 UC
Game two looked promising for the Golden Eagles as they were leading the Hilltoppers 8-3 until the bottom of the sixth inning. Most of the run support came from the top of the line up with Hannah Rose going 3-5 with three runs scored and Allysa Lake going 3-4 with two runs batted in and one run scored. Isabella Andujar remains hot at the plate as she also went 2-2 with a two-run blast over the left field fence.
The Golden Eagles unfortunately blew their five run lead in the bottom of the sixth, as the Hilltoppers capitalized off errors and pushed eight runs across the plate.
