Box Score 2 Institute, W.Va.- University of Charleston softball picks up another conference win, defeating West Virginia State University (10-4). Due to lighting issues at the WVSU softball field, game two is suspended while tied at (2-2).
Game 1: 10 UC, 4 WVSU
Charleston had a powerful start, as Hannah Rose and Isabella Andujar had back-to-back homers in the top of the first inning. The Golden Eagles scored two more runs in the third inning, three in the fifth and then closed out the UC scoring in the seventh.
Brianna McCown (8-2) continues to dominate in the circle, striking out eight Yellow Jackets, while only allowing two walks and three earned runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Standout Players:
Andujar (3-4, HR, double, 3 runs, 1 RBI), Raegan West (3-4, 2 RBIs, 1 run) and Rose (2-4, HR, 2 runs, 1 RBI)
Game 2: 2-2 (suspended)
The Yellow Jackets scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning, but a UC pitching change quickly stopped the bleeding. Relief pitcher Addison Mass (2-0) struck out three Yellow Jackets in three innings pitched, while only giving up one hit.
UC's bats went cold in game two, but Rose was able to get the offense going in the top of the sixth with a single to left field. Andujar followed in her footsteps with a single up the middle, putting two runners on with no outs. After Allysa Lake moved the runners to second and third on a groundout, Morgan Hoppe doubled to left center, driving in both Golden Eagles to tie the game at (2-2).
Due to lighting issues, the game is suspended until further notice. Be sure to check UC's website and/or social media for updates.
