The Golden Eagles Clinch Regular Season Conference Title

The Golden Eagles clinched the regular season conference championship with a pair of sweeps over the weekend over Frostburg State and West Liberty University.

The match against Frostburg was Senior Day and all three seniors notched wins. Senior Lenny Stevens paired with Farhan Patrawala at 1st doubles for 6-4 win .Senior Adrian Heidelberger paired with John Giesberts at 2nd doubles for a 6-0 win. Senior Alex Martinez 6-0, 6-1 for the final senior win on the day and partnered with Vincinte Garcia for a 6-2 win at 3rd doubles. On Senior Day, the Golden Eagles showed off their depth with wins coming from 9 different players.

Man of the match goes to Alex Martinez.

On Sunday, The Golden Eagles defeated the Hilltoppers 7-0. Charleston swept doubles winning 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (4) in the doubles matches.

West Liberty put up a good fight in singles but Charleston was too strong and prevented the upset attempt. Patrawala increased the score to 2-0 with a quick victory at 4th singles. Pinto extended the lead to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-4 win at 5th singles. It would be Garcia who clinched the match and ultimately the conference championship with 6-4, 6-4 win at 2nd singles. Rawson gave Charleston the 5th point. Giesberts and Stevens both picked up 3rd set wins to complete the sweep.

"The guys were focused on the conference championship from the first point to the last. It's really impressive that the boys only dropped 5 individual matches in conference play" said assistant coach Matt Santen.
