How it Happened
Without any doubt, this will go down as one of the greatest games in women's lacrosse history at the University of Charleston.
With a Frostburg State team coming into Charleston winning seven games in a row prior to the contest, including a win over the Golden Eagles at home in early April. It would be the Bobcats taking the early 1-0 lead in the first quarter with a solo goal from Maura O'Neill. Madison Partridge would tie things up at 1-1 after a flamethrower of a shot off the assist from Tess Yuhas. The Bobcats would score one more goal in the period to take a 2-1 lead into the second period on a goal from Anna Kearney.
Cammie Schniedwind would score the first goal of the second at the 13:24 mark to extend their lead to 3-1. Two minutes later, Partridge would score her second of the evening with an assist from Gianni Blundell to cut the lead to one. This would be Frostburg State's last lead of the game as Gianni Blundell knotted the game up at 3-3 with a solo goal with 8:25 remaining in the half. Darby Stolz would give Charleston their first lead of the match with a solo goal at the 5:08 mark for the 4-3 advantage. The game would be knotted up once more after a Julia Badolato goal two minutes later, but Charleston would hold all the momentum going into halftime with two goals from Antonia Martinez and Madison Partridge just before the half to take a 6-4 lead into the locker room.
The Bobcats used their halftime break efficiently, scoring the opening two goals of the second half from Dahlia Trippel and Anna Kearney to tie the game at 6-6. Charleston would match the pair of goals with a pair of their own; this time coming off a bizarre shot from Destiny Jackson and Sydney Verlinghieri's free position shot. With time winding down, Frostburg State would cut the lead down to one with 37 seconds remaining with a goal from Badolato to make the score 8-7 in Charleston's favor heading to the final quarter.
From then on, the hometown crowd would cheer on for 15 minutes straight as Charleston dominated the fourth quarter. Jackson would score a solo goal off the first draw control just 37 second into the half to extend the lead to 9-7. Despite a Bobcat goal at the 13:00 mark, Blundell and Jackson would match and raise the Frostburg goal with a goal of their own to take a three-score lead. Meanwhile on the other end, Georgia Ryan was having the most clutch quarter of goalkeeping the program has ever seen. She would put up six saves with eight shots on goal in the quarter, allowing for Charleston to spread their lead with another pair of goals from Madison Partridge and a Martinez-assisted goal for Darby Stolz. When the final horn sounded, Charleston ran to their goalie between the pipes to celebrate a major 14-9 victory over Frostburg State, handing them their first conference loss of the year.
