Lebanon, Penn. – The Golden Eagle Men's Golf team finished tied for 14
th in the 2023 NCAA Atlantic/East Region Preview tournament this week. Charleston struggled to remain low as just one player broke 75 during the tournament.
Iron Valley Golf Club is the site for the 2023 Regional Qualifying Tournament and the Golden Eagles got a taste of the course this week in the preview tournament. Iron Valley, a par 72 course that stretches 7,000+ yards from the tips will be a pressure packed venue next week as teams will look to qualify for the NCAA tournament with a top three finish.
Charleston struggled in their opening 18 holes Monday, posting a 314 and in 16
th after completing play on day one. A respectable 308 on day two saw Charleston jump two spots to 14
th overall.
Erik Ulvang was one of just two players on the team to shoot in the 70s in the opening round. The sophomore started on hole four and posted a team best 73 (+1) after making birdie on hole two and an eagle on hole three.
Ulvang finished T5th overall, carding a 74 on Tuesday. He was even par until the final hole of his round on Tuesday, where he made a double bogey on the par three eighth. He finished +3 for the tournament and currently leads the team in scoring average for the season.
Cole Darbyshire finished second on the team and T70th after carding a 78 on Monday and an 81 on Tuesday.
Alex Verges Vila tied
Darbyshire at +15 for the tournament. He posted an opening round 82 and fired a 77 in the second round on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles will compete next week in the NCAA Atlantic/East Region Qualifier and will look for a top three finish to qualify for the NCAA National Championships.
