How it Happened
The first quarter would entail a defensive battle between the two sides as neither team was able to spark rhythm on offense. The Senators would find the first score of the day as Ari Hinton's free position shot would put Davis & Elkins ahead by one at the 11:06 mark. Despite nine shots in the period for Charleston, their lone goal would come from the freshman Darby Stolz off of the assist from Antonia Martinez to knot things up at 1-1. Charleston limited the Senators to just two shots in the quarter and forced three failed clear attempts to keep the ball on offense, in addition to gaining all three draw controls in the period.
Each team in the second quarter of play would find five shots, with Charleston finding two on frame that were saved and the Senators with three shots on goal as well. After Georgia Ryan took one for the team and saved a flamethrower of a shot to the helmet, she would exit the game with a head injury. Megan Liston, the freshman keeper from Pickerington, OH would stand between the pipes for the remainder of the game. Neither team would find a goal in the second period and we would head to the second half with a 1-1 deadlocked game.

They would put up twelve shots in the quarter and found the back of the net five times, limiting the Senators to just two. Darby Stolz would find her second of the game at the 13:20 mark on the assist from Martinez once again to take their first lead of the game. Five minutes later, Tess Yuhas would find her first of the afternoon with a solo goal to spread the lead to two scores. Stolz would complete her hattrick with 6:16 remaining in the quarter to give Charleston a 4-1 lead. It would be a busy day in the midfield, but the Golden Eagles would go a perfect 8-8 on clear attempts in the period, giving plenty of opportunities for Charleston to set up their attack.
