Charleston, W. Va – The Golden Eagles faced another MEC opponent in West Virginia Wesleyan on an incredibly hot Wednesday evening. The Basics
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 17, WVWC 3
Records: UC (4-6, 3-0 MEC), WVWC (0-9, 0-3 MEC)

How it Happened
Despite allowing a Bobcat goal right away to start the game from Kaitlynn Canby, the Golden Eagles would take control early on, scoring 10 consecutive goals in the first half alone. Gianni Blundell would find four assists on those 10 goals, displaying the ability to control and read the offense. The first score would come from Madison Partridge at the 10:38 mark to level play at 1-1. Charleston would earn their first lead of the game after Tess Yuhas found the back of the net a minute later on the assist from Blundell for the 2-1 advantage. Yuhas would repay the favor and find Blundell for her first goal of the day and the 3-1 lead. Hannah Calvert would score a solo goal soon after to spread the margin to three scores, making it her second of the year. Blundell would find her third assist after finding Antonia Martinez for her first goal of the evening and giving Charleston an early 5-1 lead. After Destiny Jackson's first foal of the day, Partridge would find the final two goals of the first period to put Charleston in the driver's seat with an 8-1 lead.

The Bobcats would be able to capitalize off of Charleston mistakes to find two goals in the second quarter, but even with the mistakes the Golden Eagles stayed in rhythm to extend their lead with four goals coming from Sydney Verlinghieri, Partridge, and Jackson (2), allowing just three shots from the Bobcats on the other end. Charleston would remain perfect on clear attempts for the game (7-7) while scooping up 19 ground balls in the half compared to West Virginia Wesleyan's seven. At the end of the half, Charleston took a 12-3 lead into the locker room.

The Golden Eagles would not allow a single shot from the Bobcats for the duration of the game.  They would slow down the pace of the game and set up their attack slowly and surely. Yuhas' goal at the 9:27 mark would activate the running clock, making the comeback for the Bobcats that much harder. Martinez would strike the back of the net two minutes later off of the assist from Jackson for the 14-3 lead. In the fourth, Colleen Ryan would find her second goal of the season at the 11:40 mark off of the assist from Martinez. The duo would flip roles five minutes later as Ryan would find Martinez for the score to spread the lead to 16-3. The final goal of the game would come from Madison Sobolewski off of the assist from Darby Stolz with two minutes remaining. With no time remaining on the scoreboard, Charleston took the 17-3 victory over the Bobcats for their third conference win of the year.
