Charleston Begins South Division Play Against Glenville State on Friday

Charleston, W. Va – The Golden Eagle baseball team rounds out their 29 game homestand this weekend as they host Glenville State University on Friday and Saturday. They have played 25 straight games at Segra Field and have a 22-3 record at home so far this season.

Charleston Preview
 
Robbie Britt's squad sits at 22-6 overall and 10-2 in conference play. The Golden Eagles are second in the South Division standings behind Concord University who is 11-1 in conference play.
 
Charleston rounded out MEC North Division play with a 3-1 series win over Alderson Broaddus and Notre Dame College. They won the first three games before dropping the finale to the Falcons 8-7.
 
Sophomore Kyle West continues his superb season and is now hitting .368 for the season. He leads the Mountain East Conference in home runs (11), slugging percentage (.884), OPS (1.396), and triples (4). He is second in runs scored, RBI, and walks and is third in stolen bases.
 
He is followed closely by grad student Tyler Dellerman. The Maineville, OH native is leading the conference in RBI and runs scored. He is second in home runs behind West with nine and second in OPS as he sits at 1.216 on the season.
 
Giano Zuccaro is second in the MEC with 11 doubles, third in RBI with 25, and is sixth in on base percentage. Drew Klaserner is leading the conference with 31 walks.
 
Clay Hale is leading the MEC in on base percentage through the first half of conference play.
 
Charleston's bullpen has been solid through the middle of the season so far. Bullpen pitchers have inherited 87 runners entering the game and have allowed just 39.1% of them to score.
 
Leading the way is veteran left hander Tad Dean. The grad student has thrown 8.2 innings while allowing just four earned runs with 10 strikeouts. He has allowed just two of his 13 inherited runners to score on the season.
 
Owen MacNeil has been solid as well. He got his first start of the season last week against Notre Dame where he went 4.0 innings with three strikeouts and one earned run. He has a 0.96 ERA through 9.1 innings.
 
Glenville State Preview
 
Glenville State is 13-16 overall with a 6-6 conference record. Leading the way is the Pioneer pitching staff who is a fourth in the MEC with a 4.73 ERA in conference play.
 
Chase Swain is leading all Pioneers with a 3.63 ERA and 43 strikeouts through 39.2 innings. Opponents are hitting just .258 against the senior right hander. Diego Tamariz has 39 strikeouts through 28.2 innings and opponents are hitting a measly .212 off of Tamariz.
 
Fabian Escalante is leading the offense with a .275 average and three home runs. Zach Morris is hitting .333 through 21 games with 15 RBI. Carlos De Jesus leads the team with 18 RBI and eight extra base hits.
