Charleston fell behind early in their opening game of the Millerville Regional. Starter Cole Peschl surrendered three runs on a couple of Golden Ram hits and a scoreless bottom of the inning saw Charleston trail 3-0.
Peschl settled down after the first inning, allowing just three hits over the next six innings of work with six strikeouts. However, Charleston's offense couldn't find life and he was handed his second loss of the season.
Charleston got on the board in the bottom of the third but it would be the only run the Golden Eagles could muster in the game. Tyler Dellerman hit his 18
th home run of the season; a backside shot that cut the lead to just two at the time. He finished the day with a game high four hits and UC's only run and RBI.
West Chester's Julian Costa kept Charleston hitters guessing at the plate in his outing. The PSAC East Freshman of the Year worked six innings while allowing just one run and striking out ten. He scattered eight hits and walked only two en route to his sixth win of the season.
Cody Godbold relieved Peschl in the top of the eighth, and gave up two runs, but neither of those were earned. A two out error, and a Golden Ram stolen base put runners at second and third with two outs. West Chester's
Sean Szestowicki snuck a ball past the diving glove of AJ Karosas at shortstop to bring home both runners, and extended the Golden Ram lead to 5-1.
Charleston went down in order in the eighth and had just one baserunner in the ninth as West Chester's
David Ferguson went on to pick up his team leading sixth save of the year.
The Golden Eagles will take on Millersville in an elimination game at 2:30 p.m. at Cooper Park.
