CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (May 24, 2023) - On Wednesday evening, junior and two-time Mountain East Conference (MEC) Player of the Year Hannah Rose was honored for the second time in her collegiate career as an NFCA Division II First-Team All-American.
Rose made history last year, as she was the third All-American in the history of UC Softball and the first to ever receive First-Team recognition. This year, Rose is the first Golden Eagle to be honored as an All-American more than once.
The lead off hitter had a phenomenal 2023 season offensively with 91 hits in 184 at bats, 71 runs scored, 34 runs-batted-in (RBI), 16 doubles, 13 home runs and four triples. Rose finished the season with a .495 batting average, a .837 slugging percentage and a .567 on base percentage with 23 walks and nine hit-by-pitches. The speedster also stole 31 bases on the season.
Throughout the regular season, Rose found herself leading the nation in batting average and ranking top ten in on base percentage, runs per game and slugging percentage. With this in mind, it is no surprise that she finished the season leading the Mountain East Conference (MEC) in batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage, on base plus slugging percentage (1.404), runs scored and hits. Rose was second in home runs behind her teammate Isabella Andujar.
The shortstop was also strong defensively, as she only had four errors to her name in regular season play. She was asked to move from center field to shortstop as a sophomore, and she has called it home ever since.
Rose is the most decorated softball player to ever play at the University of Charleston, and she looks to continue her success as a senior next year.
